Here at Verus Metrology, our way of saying thank you to those that support us is by supporting others. In other words, we love to give back to the community and that is why our 2019 partnership with The Jack & Jill Children’s Foundation is so important. We are dedicated to helping this amazing charity raise vital funds for the children and their families who need it most.
The Jack & Jill Children’s Foundation provides funding to families of children up to the age of five who suffer severe intellectual and physical developmental delay, enabling them to purchase home respite care. These are children who as a result of their condition require intensive home nursing care. The charity gives these families THE GIFT OF TIME. Time to do the things that we so often take for granted like shopping, taking their children to the park, and a night’s sleep.
Therefore, every sixteen euro raised, one hour of home nursing care for a Jack & Jill child will be funded. We look forward to hosting many more charity events and will continue working towards our fundraising target throughout the year.
Food Is the Way to Every Engineers Heart
Ever stuck for lunch ideas? Well, at Verus Metrology, for one Wednesday a month, we don’t have to be worried. As part of our fundraising efforts, one member of the team volunteers to do a monthly cook-off, providing a tasty lunch meal for everyone else. However, it’s not an easy task when there are over twenty hungry mouths to feed.
Design Engineer Mark Devanney has been initiating our philanthropic efforts since July 2018. He kick-started our cook-offs with some delicious pulled-pork brisket. Since then, we have tucked into the likes of French onion soup, lasagne and even tacos too!
All eyes are now on Martin, one of our Metrology Engineers, who is up next. We are expecting something quite tasty, although he hasn’t given any hints away yet as to what he has in mind.
Taking Care Of Quizness
In addition to our cook-offs, we are always looking for ways to fundraise outside of the office too and it was quiz night for Verus on Thursday, 20th June. Andersons Grill & Bar in Sligo was the place to be, as many turned out to support and join in on some friendly, yet competitive quizzing. We didn’t go hungry this time either, with Andersons kindly providing food during the event.
We were amazed by the support we got from everyone on the night. The evening was a success from the start, not least with the help of our many corporate friends – ROM Sligo, LifeStyle, DID Electrical, Pearse Road Tyres, and Andersons Grill & Bar who each kindly donated a spot prize for our charity raffle. One lucky winner even walked away with a Radisson Spa voucher sponsored by Verus Metrology.
Above all, these events are helping us strive towards our goal of raising money and creating awareness of a charity that is currently helping 355 children with neurological development delay, giving essential support to their families.
Social Good in Verus UK
On the other side of the shores, Verus UK’s 2019 nominated charity of the year is the Alzheimer’s Society UK. Our UK team is running several fundraising events and initiatives throughout the year to support this important cause, so continue to look out for more info on future events both in the UK and here in Sligo. Past UK fundraising efforts have included our very own Abi Burton, who took part in the Robin Hood half marathon in aid of the Alzheimer’s Society in Nottingham last September.
However, thanks to the amazing contribution that we have received to date, we can proudly say that we are well on our way to exceeding our fundraising target. As a result, hours of home nursing care for a Jack & Jill child has been funded. Verus Metrology is looking forward to its next fundraising venture, and we will be sure to keep you posted.
